This is the debut CD from The Clyde Valley Ceilidh Band. The band members are all based around the Lanarkshire area and are Allan Smith (lead Accordion), Andy Kain (fiddle), Alex Graham(second accordion), Dorothy Lawson (piano/ keyboards) and Ian
Graham (drums). I have enjoyed listening to the recording, not only because of the band's excellent choice of material and the superb arrangements from Dorothy and Allan, but also their swingy tempos and the lift that they have managed to achieve playing as a group. I do not really have a favourite track, sometimes you will buy a CD and find after listening to it, you only like one or two tracks out of fifteen, this cannot be said of this recording, as all the tracks are good. I particularly enjoyed Alan's own composition, the last track, which is a really great tune. Do not let the "Ceilidh" in the band's title put you off if you enjoy steady tempos; in my personal view the majority of the tempos aremore traditional than "hell for leather" .The Clyde Valley Ceilidh Band has certainly got the lift and swing required from a danceband. Appreciation must also go to Thane Recording Studios for the excellent balance and mix that they have produced throughout the CD. A refreshing sound which I was delighted to feature on Reel Blend” “Robbie Shepherd BBC Radio Scotland”
The Clyde Valley Ceilidh Band debut CD. “Light Reflections” is a must for Scottish Music lovers. With a wide variety of familiar tunes and a fine selection of self- penned compositions, the band have produced an exceptional album. With a wealth of experience behind them, these musicians bring a unique quality to the band. The arrangements are bright and well executed without being overpowering. For dancers and listeners alike, this is one album youâ€ll want to hear over and over again. ” Ian Lees Radio Tay AM” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
